Maroubra Beach

Maroubra is an Aboriginal word meaning place of thunder which may have described the sound of the huge waves pounding on the shoreline. The north end of the beach is certainly renowned for great surf while dive schools operate off the southern headland. Mahon Pool at the base of Jack Vanny Reserve, Marine Parade North, has been cut out of natural rock to form a large saltwater swimming pool.
